Third Trimester Chiropractic Care: The Secret To Better Baby Positioning + A Smoother Birth
If you’re in the final stretch of pregnancy (hello third trimester ), you might be thinking:
“Is there anything I can do right now to help baby get into the best position for birth?”
Yes. And the good news is—it doesn’t have to be complicated.
At Focus Chiropractic, we love supporting pregnant mamas in the last few weeks of pregnancy with gentle chiropractic care, home techniques, and simple daily habits that encourage optimal baby positioning and a more comfortable pregnancy.
Dr. Richard is Webster Certified, which means he’s trained in a pregnancy-specific chiropractic technique designed to help bring more balance to the pelvis and support baby’s positioning as you prepare for birth.
Because when your body feels more balanced…
baby has more room to settle in.
Why baby positioning matters in late pregnancy
In the final weeks, baby is growing quickly, your pelvis is changing, and your ligaments are softening (thanks, hormones). This is normal, but it can also create tension and imbalance in the pelvis and surrounding muscles.
Sometimes that tension can make it harder for baby to settle into an ideal head-down, well-flexed position.
Chiropractic care in late pregnancy is designed to support:
Pelvic alignment and balance
Hip and low back comfort
Sacrum and tailbone mobility
Round ligament and SI joint tension
A more relaxed, open “home” for baby
It’s not about forcing baby into position, t’s about giving your body the best possible foundation so baby can move freely.
Webster Technique: A gentle, pregnancy-specific approach
One of our favorite tools for pregnancy care is the Webster Technique, a gentle chiropractic technique that focuses on improving pelvic balance and reducing tension that may affect uterine and pelvic function.
Dr. Richard is Webster Certified, meaning he has advanced training in this pregnancy-specific technique. The Webster Technique is a pregnancy-specific chiropractic approach that helps create better pelvic balance and space for baby positioning.
Many mamas choose to come in weekly during the final weeks of pregnancy to support comfort, mobility, and positioning as baby gets ready for birth.
Bring your spouse: pelvic “holds” + hands-on support at home
We also encourage mamas to bring their spouse/partner to a visit near the end of pregnancy.
Why?
Because we love teaching simple supportive techniques at home—especially pelvic holds (gentle positioning and support techniques that help relax and open the pelvis).
And honestly? Most dads LOVE a game plan.
They want to help, they just don’t always know how—so we make it simple. We’ll teach them exactly what to do, when to do it, and how to support you in a way that feels confident and effective… so they can stop overthinking and just take action.
It becomes a team effort: you + your partner + your baby
Late pregnancy habits we love (simple + powerful)
Here are a few gentle daily practices we recommend to many of our pregnant mamas in the final weeks:
1) Red Raspberry Leaf Tea
This is a classic late-pregnancy support tea many mamas love. Traditionally used as a uterine tonic, red raspberry leaf tea may support more efficient contractions, though research is still evolving.
Tip: Start slow, listen to your body, and be consistent.
2) Eat 2 dates a day
Dates are one of our favorite “easy add-ins” in late pregnancy. Research suggests that eating dates in late pregnancy may support shorter labor and improved cervical readiness.
Try them:
with almond butter
blended into smoothies
chopped into oatmeal
as a quick snack on the go
paired with sliced apples (two dates + apple slices seriously hits the spot!)
Dr. Kolleen personally loves pairing her dates with apple slices for the perfect late-pregnancy snack
3) Curb walking
Curb walking is a simple movement technique that can encourage pelvic mobility and baby positioning. Gentle, asymmetrical movements like curb walking can support pelvic mobility and baby’s ability to settle into position.
Start with short rounds and don’t overdo it, especially if you’re having pelvic pain.
4) Chiropractic care
This is the foundation. When your pelvis is balanced and your nervous system is supported, everything works better, movement, comfort, sleep, and baby positioning.
Late pregnancy is not the time to “just push through.” It’s the time to support your body wisely.
When should you come in?
If you’re anywhere from 32 weeks and beyond, this is a beautiful time to get consistent support.
We especially recommend visits if you’re experiencing:
pelvic pain or pressure
sciatica
hip tightness
low back pain
baby feeling “stuck” in one spot
breech or transverse positioning concerns
a history of long or difficult labor
lots of belly tightness or round ligament pain
Even if you feel “fine,” late pregnancy care can be incredibly supportive and preventative.
